This week we had a race in Huesca, up near the Pyrenees, so yesterday we traveled the 450km from Madrid up to Riglos where we were staying for the night. All I can say is that this place is exhilarating. The village of Riglos is surroundings by rocky mountains, with a spectacular view of the heavens. You can see the panorama down below, absolutely mind-blowing.
We arrived in the late afternoon, and my teammate Pepe and I went out for a spin on the bikes. Everything was going nicely until we bumped into our team director Ivan David who was also out riding, and he was staying at a different hotel. He was in a competitive mood and was challenging us, and he ordered me to go faster! Then at one point, he attacked and sprinted flat out like Mark Cavendish, he was absolutely on fire! But of course he blew himself up, and then he couldn’t keep up with us!
The hotel in Riglos was nice, with a very small bedroom, and we were a bit cramped, but I didn’t complain as there was a bed for me.
This morning we left the hotel in Riglos and headed to Huesca for the race. My legs were feeling good, and my mind was too, as my bike had been fitted with a new pair of race wheels and a new rear shifter. It was all ready to go. There were more than 100 riders on the start line, and the race was 90km on a 3km course through Huesca. It was a nice course with a good street layout.
In the first hour of the race I was in a good comfortable position up front, and I noticed that quite a lot of riders were dropping like flies, as the pace was furiously fast, but I liked it. I gave it all I could, and I finished 31st at 11 seconds behind the leader, and my teammate Carlos came 13th with the same time as the leader
I’m happy with my form and I’m focusing on a 5 stage tour in mid September, which I’m already feeling confident about. I ain’t giving up until the season is over! Like I’ve always said, nothing can stop me!
My next race is in 3 weeks time in Motilla, so stay tuned.
