I picked up a really nice vintage C1987 steel Raleigh frame, new old stock, with a really nice metallic British racing green paint job. I want a heavy winter training bike that will be solid in the high atlantic winds, something that would make me have to put down more power up the climbs.
I fitted it out with some 9 speed Shimnano bits off my old traing bike, FSA chainset, alu bars and seat post for a really sturdy ride. I finished it off with some contrasting blue Jagwire cable and left it up to John Morse at Penzance Cycle Centre finish her off and tune her up.
I wasn’t disappointed, it is a really nice sturdy ride and flows like a dream on fast descents. Although the more I rode it, it became known as the green horror due to my groaning every time we would approach a climb on a club ride. It takes double the motivation to ride the Green Hornet over the lumpy coastal road from St Just to St Ives, but all in a day’s training!
