Today was the first day of training after my 3 week end of season break. It was great to get started and take the first step towards the new season and put the wheels in motion. It is still pretty mild for October and we’re having plenty of sun here in Cornwall, although it felt strange getting up while it was still dark. I was two hours into my ride before the dawn broke, but it gave me chance to try out my new bike lights which are the business.
The Cornish roads were empty at 6am but by 7.30 the Monday morning traffic was in full swing. I headed out to Lands End on the empty road and as I passed through Sennen village a cat was sat under the street lamp staring at me as I pedalled past in the dark! I had the A30 all to myself, heading back towards Penzance, along the sea front and up to Marazion.
On my way back surprisingly Ross swing bridge was closed so I had to make a detour up the cobbles of Abbey Slip, the first time I’ve ridden them and it added a touch of Flanders to my first ride, even if it was for only 30 seconds at full power!
By the time I got back home, even though the sun was up it was still pretty dark, so a good start to my training plan, and finished off with a decent bowl of porridge!
