XXXVII Trofeo Paloma – Fuenlabrada

Today it was my local race, the 105km Trofeo Paloma in Fuenlabrada, Madrid. As I said in yesterday’s race report, I am using my new bike which has recently been delivered from the UK, but was having problems with the front mech. Well it seemed to be ok this morning, but part way through the race the chain came off repeatedly again, and so my race was pretty much a low key event to say the least. And on a new bike!

Because of the mechanical problem I finished in 105th position, at 6.58

Anyway, after the race I actually discovered what the problem was, that the chain was damaged, with two links splaying outwards, so it’s no wonder that I was having problems, and it looks like the link-pin in the chain wasn’t pressed in far enough, and the link ruptured and began pushing outwards, causing the front mech to malfunction, and the chain to slip off the ring.

Anyway, no problem, as I am taking a short break from racing for the next 3 races, which is a good thing for me, as it is going to allow me some much needed spare time, to get the new bike fully checked over, with a new chain sorted, and also allow me to set the bike up with a proper fit, and fully test it out in training. I will give a you a full update shortly, so watch this space!
